The Regusci's: February 2011

No...I am not talking about little (large) sea animals but rather my little boys new swim program that I am LOVING!!

The program is called Baby-Seals Swim Academy. Last summer as we played at the pool I watched a few kids go through the program. I have to admit that at first I thought they were torturing the babies but after watching and educating myself on the program I quickly became a believer. As I thought about this upcoming summer, trips to the pool, water parks, lakes and realizing often it will be just me and four mobile children there was no other option, I needed to prepare all the children to be safe around water.

So I enrolled the two little boys. What is this program you ask. Well it is basically an infant survival skills class and survival/swim class for older toddlers and children.

For AJ he is learning to roll over on to his back relax and float even when fully clothed. Basiclly increasing his chances of surviving if he falls into the water and increasing the time I have to get to him.

For Matteo he is learning to swim underwater in order to get to stairs or the side of the pool. He is learning a swim -float- swim sequence where he flips to his back to breath, relax, regain energy and then go back to swimming to get to the side. We have been doing the program for 3 days now and Matteo is LOVING it. He was a little hesitate on day 2 but today he was full of grins and giggles doing everything Mrs. Steffi asked of him. AJ is also doing awesome. He of course cries when he gets in the water but does starting to clam down and relax once in. Today he even floated multiple times by himself during the lessons! He is quite the strong lad.

I would HIGHLY recommend this program to anyone who spends a lot of time around water with young babies.
